Licence terms
for the Screenshot 42 program · As of November 2026. The German version is binding.
1. Scope
These terms govern the use of the Screenshot 42 program for Windows and macOS by André Lucas, Epic Art and Sound (“we”). Licences are sold by Freemius (Freemius, Inc., USA) as authorised reseller; purchase, payment and refunds are governed by its terms of sale, the use of the program by these licence terms.
2. Free trial
You can try Screenshot 42 on any computer free of charge with all features for 28 days from the first start. After that, no capture starts until a licence is activated. Images you have saved until then stay in your folders.
3. What the licence allows
- With a licence you may use Screenshot 42 without time limit on as many computers as you have bought (1, 3, 10 or 30), privately and commercially, on Windows and on the Mac. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
- The licence covers one major version (e.g. Screenshot 42 version 1, i.e. all versions 1.x; the preview versions 0.x are included) with all updates of that major version. A new major version requires a new licence; you may keep using your current version.
- You may move the licence to another computer at any time, including from Windows to the Mac and vice versa: deactivate it in the program on the old computer and enter the licence key on the new one. You may also pass the licence on to another person if you deactivate it everywhere first and no longer use the program yourself.
4. What is not allowed
- publishing the licence key or using it on more computers than you have bought,
- circumventing the licence check or modifying the program so that it no longer works,
- selling, renting or publicly offering the program for download (a backup copy is allowed).
Reverse engineering the program is only allowed to the extent expressly permitted by law (§§ 69d, 69e German Copyright Act).
5. Online functions
Your screenshots, recognised text and translations stay on your computer. For the licence check, Screenshot 42 occasionally needs an internet connection: at start-up and once a day. Without internet, the last successful check remains valid for 30 days. The program also checks for updates and downloads a language model once the first time you translate. What is transmitted is described in the privacy policy.
6. Third-party components
Screenshot 42 contains components by other makers, e.g. Electron and the translation models. Their own licences apply; they are listed in the program’s help under “About Screenshot 42” → “Show licenses”.
7. Warranty and liability
Statutory rights apply. The best way to report defects is to write to info@screenshot42.de.
We are liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act. For slight negligence we are only liable if we breach an essential obligation on whose fulfilment you may rely, and then limited to the typical, foreseeable damage.
Screenshot 42 does not overwrite or delete any of your files; it only saves images when you tell it to, and only to your folders. We still recommend regular backups.
8. Final provisions
German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you live remain unaffected.
